Mozambique reports another Covid-19 death, and 72 new cases
Mozambique today (December 21) reported the death of another patient due to Covid-19 – bringing the number of deaths to 150, – and 72 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus.
A 55-year-old Mozambican man died on Monday after being admitted to a hospital in the city of Maputo,reads a statement from the Ministry of Health (MISAU) distributed to the press today..
Mozambique has a cumulative of 17,767 coronavirus cases, of which 17,454 are locally transmitted and 313 imported.
The country has a total of 15,856 (88%) recoveries.
Of the 1,757 active cases in the country, Maputo city has the highest number of infections, with 1,325, followed by Maputo province, with 126 people still infected.
Mozambique has cumulatively tested 260,130 people suspected of infection since the first case was announced on 22 March.
The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,703,500 deaths resulting from more than 77.2 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
